Let's uncover why HP would say this. First, did you know that a quarter ounce Hewlett-Packard color ink jet cartridge costs $22?! That's more expensive, by weight, than imported Russian caviar! Epson and HP both earn a 60% gross margin on ink jet and toner cartridges - and we're not talking about nickels and dimes here. In fact, it's fair to say that a staggering 80% of overall profits (statistics taken from within Epson and HP's printing divisions) come from supplies. aka ink cartridges!
Well that's enough negativity - I'm assuming you already know how expensive new ink cartridges are. Do yourself a favor and save some money. You can refill yourself or get someone else to take care of your refillable ink cartridges HP for you - look into your local electronics/computer store, kiosk in your mall, or an online refiller.
